"Lazy Paganism" For Daily Living
A while back, I wrote an article I titled "Lazy Paganism" which had lists of low-energy, simple practices for recons and other pagans who didn't have the time or the energy to do elaborate daily ritual. Here are those bullet points, with a few extra additions:
Just some stuff I do that the rest of you might be able to take some inspiration from. I don’t usually have time or energy for big ritual stuff, so these are some small things I do on a more or less daily basis:
This is pretty much what I do. Occasionally I light candles. But this is most of it.
Just some stuff I do that the rest of you might be able to take some inspiration from. I don’t usually have time or energy for big ritual stuff, so these are some small things I do on a more or less daily basis:
- Welcome the sun if it’s up when you wake. Same for the stars. Note the phase of moon but don’t need to keep track of it.
- Compose hymns while walking or driving in the car.
- Purify and cleanse while washing hands.
- When in possession of spare home-baked goods, leave a bit for house wight.
- Making eating ordinary food a sacred feast by asking the gods and beings to share in it if they will.
- Write every day. And on that note also sing, carve, draw, and paint. When possible.
- Hymns and healing in the shower.
- Journal.
- Keep talismans of gods in pockets or on jewelry. Keep mindful. All you need to pray then is a touch to one of them, no effort required.
- Be kind to your kin. Be hospitable.
- Make tea a sacred act.
- Take care of health. Keep living space clean. This is good for you, for house wights, and for anyone invited into sacred and mundane space.
This is pretty much what I do. Occasionally I light candles. But this is most of it.
